What to Expect?

Each athlete will be assigned a level appropriate track that includes on and off-ice curriculum.  Our expert staff of coaches will introduce skaters to new skills, technique in spinning and jumping, off-ice classes in dance, strength & conditioning, jump training and more!


Why Join?

The Rocky Mountain Figure Skating Academy offers athletes a cost-effective way to enter into the world of competitive figure skating.  Our training system transitions our newer athletes into a comprehensive training system, while remaining in a fun, team-empowered environment.  Our competition team level will offer in-depth curriculum designed to focus on IJS fundamentals and technique.


Who Can Join?

The academy is open to Learn to Skate skaters in level Basic 6 all the way up to Juvenile level (skaters may also be invited by the Director) 


Academy Class Curriculum

Bridge Level Classes (Basic 6 - Pre-Free Skate)

Jumps:  Waltz Jump, salchow, toe loop

Spins:  Forward scratch spin, backward scratch spin, sit spin

Skating Skills:  Foundations of power & edges

Artistry:  Movement exploration, improvisation, rhythm basics


Junior Competitive Level Classes (Free Skate 1-6)

Jumps:  Salchow, toe loop, loop jump, flip, single combination jumps, lutz intro, axel intro

Spins:  Sit spin, camel, layback intro, combination spins, back spin, back sit spin

Skating Skills:  Foundations of power & edges, edge & turn technique

Artistry:  Program fundamentals, movement exploration, rhythm & flow


Competition Team Level Classes (Pre-Preliminary - Juvenile)

Jumps:  Axel mastery, double salchow, double toe loop, double loop, double flip, double lutz, double combinations

Spins:  Difficult flying entry, difficult variations

Skating Skills:  Foundations of power & edges, edge & turn technique

Artistry:  Character and theme development, intro to program components, performance refinement


Off-Ice Classes (age-appropriate methods and techniques to enhance core strength, flexibility, agility, power, explosiveness and coordination)

Dance & Ballet:  Dance and ballet are designed to provide skaters with the foundations of movement techniques while making a connection between music, movement and the audience.

Jump Skills & Skating Technique:  Jump skills and skating technique focuses on jump technique, spin positions and balance.  Enhancing a figure skater's flexibility, strength and aerobic conditioning.


Academy Sessions

The Rocky Mountain Figure Skating Academy offers classes throughout the year.  The next RMFSA session will resume sometime in the Fall.  Can't commit to a whole session?  Skaters are welcome to drop-in for a class!  The cost to drop-in is $23.00 and you will just pay that at the front desk prior to getting ont he ice.

Academy Staff

Robyn Sudkamp:  Learn to Skate Director and Rocky Mountain Figure Skating Academy Director.  Coached pairs at the National level.  Sectional Junior Pair and Novice Ladies Competitor, National Novice Pair Bronze Medalist.  Over 15 years of experience as a principal performer in both singles and pairs.

Ashley Wyatt:  PSA Master Rated Choreographer and Certified Yoga Instructor, American Ice Theatre Certified: Master Choreography Techniques.  13 years touring internationaly with various professional ice shows, 21 years coaching experience.

Kelly Clark:  21 years of on-ice and off-ice coaching experience, coach of National and International level competitors, USFS Double Gold Medalist in Figures and Freestyle.

George Selimos:  National level coach, Skate Canada Gold Figure, Gold Free Skate, Gold Dance, Gold Pair and Canadian National competitor.  Principal performer with Disney on Ice, Willy Bietak Productions & AEG.

Jeremiah Jackson:  Ballet Dancer and US National Pairs Competitor, USFS Gold Medalist.

*other specialized guest coaches will occasionally join out team to bring our athletes the very best training in the Denver area
